Lewis Chesler. Lewis Chesler, a native of Cleveland, graduated from Amherst College with high honours in cultural history. Following college, he served in the US Peace Corps and in the Merchant Marine. In the mid-70’s, he became artistic director of the Long Beach Performing Arts Centre.
The Hitchhiker was created by Lewis Chesler and Riff Markowitz, later joined by Richard Rothstein. The pilot episode consisted of three stories. Richard Rothstein wrote two and Jeph Loeb and Matt Weissman wrote the third. Paul Hoffert created the theme music for the show. Episodes Series overview

Perlmutter's relationship with Lewis Chesler began by arranging financing for Chesler’s productions during the 1980s. In 1989, they formed Chesler/Perlmutter Productions. In conjunction with Chesler’s creative efforts, Perlmutter has created an enormous range of innovative financing structures combining the benefits available to Canadian producers with international benefits, pre-sales and banking sources.
Chesler is a founder of The Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art and is on the board of numerous ballet and modern dance companies. I did a follow-up interview with Lewis on July 19, 2002. He still wears a white singlet. Lewis: "I fear that I may have made my last movie.
