Regarded as one of the leaders of the Australian film Industry, Anthony Buckley began his career with the Sydney newsreel company Cinesound. His first foray into feature films he edited Michael Powell’s Age of Consent, Ted Kotcheff’s Wake in Fright and Rudolf Nureyev’s Don Quixote.
Though best-known as a royal photographer in the 1960s and 1970s, Buckley's long career as a portraitist stretched from 1937-1975. Over thirty of the 240 prints in the Gallery's collection were shown for the first time on the occasion of this retrospective.
