Charles John Musser (born 16 January 1951) is a film historian, documentary filmmaker, and a film editor. Since 1992, he has taught at Yale University, where he is currently a professor of Film and Media Studies as well as American Studies and Theater Studies.

Charles Musser grew up in Old Greenwich and Riverside, Connecticut, and attended St. Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire, where he took Public Affairs courses with Gerry Studds, who co-chaired Eugene McCarthy’s 1968 presidential campaign in New Hampshire.
Charles Musser teaches courses on the interactions between live performance and film, primarily in the United States. His essay “To Redream the Dreams of White Playwrights: Resistance and Reappropriation in Oscar Micheaux’s Body and Soul” was awarded the Katherine Kovacs Prize for Outstanding Scholarship (essay) published in 1999-2000.
