He was one of the last members of the Madras Art Movement which pioneered modernism in art in south India and the son of K. C. S. Paniker, the founder of the movement as well as the Cholamandal Artists' Village.

  8. S. Nandgopal, born in 1936 was one of the Indian sculptor and artist. He was well known for the modernist art. He studied Bachelor in Physics from the University of Madras in 1960s and later on joined the Government College of Fine Arts, Chennai to study Diploma in fine arts in early 1970s.
