Vikram Chandra (born 23 July 1961) is an Indian-American writer. His first novel , Red Earth and Pouring Rain , won the 1996 Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Best First Book. [1]

Vikram Chandra’s latest book is Geek Sublime: The Beauty of Code, the Code of Beauty. He has also written the novels Sacred Games and Red Earth and Pouring Rain, and the short story collection Love and Longing in Bombay.

Vikram Chandra was born in New Delhi. He completed most of his secondary education at Mayo College, a boarding school in Ajmer, Rajasthan. After a short stay at St. Xavier's College in Mumbai, Vikram came to the United States as an undergraduate student.

His most recent novel is Sacred Games (2006), set in present day Mumbai. A non-fiction work about the culture of computer programming and classical Indian aesthetics was published in 2013 by Penguin India as Mirrored Mind: My Life in Letters and Code; and in 2014 by Faber & Faber as Geek Sublime: Writing Fiction, Coding Software.
A 900-page novel, Sacred Games, was published in 2006 in India and the UK, and in the USA in early 2007. He is also the co-writer of the Bollywood movie Mission Kashmir, released in late October, 2000, and has been a news anchor on Indian TV, a computer programmer and consultant.
