Joe Maurer is delighted to return to his home state of Massachusetts to teach ethnomusicology courses at MIT. He received a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from the University of Chicago (2020) and a B.A. in Music, Public Policy, and Education from Brown University (2010).
Joe Maurer is a doctoral candidate in Ethnomusicology at the University of Chicago. His current research examines the social and structural dynamics of several Chicago-based youth music programs that teach mariachi, p'ungmul, and Mexican sones.
