Feb 1, 2016 · With the upcoming January 2016 release, we are introducing a new Insiders build that installs side by side with the monthly, stable VS Code release. No longer do you need to manage settings to switch between the two. The Insiders build is a separate installation with isolated settings, extensions, and configurations.

Today over five thousand developers use the Visual Studio Code Insiders Build for early access to new features and to validate bug fixes. We love the Insiders build because we get valuable feedback and usage insights prior to each Stable release.
Create a Profile. VS Code treats your current configuration as the Default Profile. As you modify settings, install extensions, or change UI layout by moving views, these customizations are tracked in the Default Profile.
Insiders builds. The Visual Studio Code team uses the Insiders version to test the latest features and bug fixes of VS Code. You can also use the Insiders version by downloading it here. For Early Adopters - Insiders has the most recent code changes for users and extension authors to try out.
You can sync your Insiders with Stable by selecting the Stable sync service while turning on Settings Sync. This option is only available in VS Code Insiders. Note: Since Insiders builds are newer than Stable builds, syncing them can sometimes lead to data incompatibility.
Mar 30, 2023 · Open VS Code (even better, use Insiders). Open the Extensions view (⇧⌘X (Windows, Linux Ctrl+Shift+X)), search for GitHub Copilot and install the extension. When prompted, authenticate with your GitHub ID. Open a code file and let the magic happen!
Note: On Insiders, the folder should be named code-insiders-portable-data. Update Portable VS Code. On Windows and Linux, you can update VS Code by copying the data folder over to a more recent version of VS Code. On macOS, automatic updates should work as always, no extra work needed.
