James Clair Flood (October 25, 1826 – February 21, 1889 [1]) was an American businessman who made a fortune thanks to the Comstock Lode in Nevada. His mining operations are recounted to this day as an outstanding example of what may be done with a rich ore body and a genius for stock manipulation.

On the 4th of July 1944, James Allen Flood was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He moved to Miami in 1961, graduating from Miami Jackson High School the following year. In 1965, he joined the Navy, serving as Quartermaster on the command cruiser U.S.S. Wright, then the destroyer U.S.S. Laffey.
