Mayilattam (Tamil: மயிலாட்டம்) is an artistic and religious form of dance performed in the Hindu temples of Tamil Nadu and Kerala in reverence to Murugan, a regional form of the Hindu deity Kartikeya.
Mayilattam is an aesthetic and religious form of dance dedicated to Lord Subrahmanya that is performed at Hindu temples in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Mayilattam dancers dress up as a peacock with a beak and execute specific dances while wearing costumes that can be opened and closed with a thread.
Mayilattam dance was first originated in Tamil Nadu region and executed usually by the rural women in honour of Lord Subrahmanya. This traditional South Indian dance is hard and requires extensive training and practise.
