Jose Ferrer (1912-1992) was an American actor and director. He is best known today as the title character in the film Cyrano de Bergerac (1950), a performance that won him an Academy Award, and for his portrayal of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec in Moulin Rouge (1952).
Throughout his career, José Ferrer maximized every bit of his talent. The protean Puerto Rican performer dared to take on extremely challenging parts that would stretch him as an actor and tax his ability, which is how he ended up on Broadway, winning a Tony in 1947 for his performance in Cyrano de Bergerac.
