St. Charles Borromeo Parish became the first Cathedral of the newly created Diocese of Orlando in 1968. The parish was established on March 31, 1954, with Father (later Monsignor) Charles A. Bartok assigned to be pastor and to establish a Catholic high school next to it (Bishop Moore).
