The development of Dayton’s Bluff as a “suburban” residential location began in the 1840s. The area was named for Lyman Dayton, an early pioneer real estate operator who owned extensive properties and built a home on the Bluff in the 1850s.
Lyman was a real historic figure to the City of Saint Paul, Minnesota. His was from Connecticut and he was born of wealth. Lyman arrived in Minnesota in 1849 where he became a railroad and land speculator of some fame. He owned the land that became Dayton's Bluff in the East Side of the city of Saint Paul.
