Sir Benegal Narsing Rau CIE (26 February 1887 – 30 November 1953) was an Indian civil servant, jurist, diplomat and statesman known for his key role in drafting the Constitution of India as the Constitutional Advisor to Constituent Assembly. He was also India's representative to the United Nations Security Council from 1950 to 1952.
Sir Benegal Narsing Rau, shortly called B. N. Rau was an Indian civil servant, jurist, diplomat and statesman from Bangalore who was active in the pre-independent India.
His brothers were equally illustrious: Benegal Rama Rau was Governor of the Reserve Bank of India and B Shiva Rao an eminent journalist-politician.
Rao was a member of the Indian delegation to the United Nations in 1947, 1948, 1949 and 1950. He was elected to India’s first Lok Sabha (1952-56) from the South Kanara constituency (Present day Mangalore) followed by a term at the Rajya Sabha (1957-60). On 15 December 1975, Rao passed away in New Delhi.
Benegal Shiva Rao (26 February 1891 – 15 December 1975) was an Indian journalist and politician. He was a member of the Constituent Assembly of India and an elected representative of the South Kanara constituency in the First Lok Sabha (later named Mangalore, currently Dakshina Kannada ).
