Our deep, on-the-ground work in Education has laid the foundation for expanding our work into Health and Livelihoods. We are a not-for-profit organisation working towards a just, equitable, humane and sustainable society. Our work is focused on India.
Our purpose is to strengthen the government school education system in India on the ground, with a focus on the more disadvantaged regions of the country. The journey of Azim Premji Foundation began with programmatic interventions in school education.

Azim Premji Schools are integral to our work in improving K-12 education in India. These demonstration schools give us an opportunity to practise what we advocate and assist in our work with government schoolteachers.
The Foundation was formally established on 9 March 2001 (under Section 25 of the Indian Companies Act of 1956). Since then, Azim Premji has contributed a substantial portion of his wealth to create a philanthropic endowment, valued at approximately INR 2,40,000 crore (USD 29 billion) as of January 2023.
