Mott the Hoople were a British rock band formed in Herefordshire. Originally named the Doc Thomas Group, the band changed their name after signing with Island Records in 1969. The band released albums at the beginning of the 1970s but failed to find any success.

For the uninitiated, Mott The Hoople were a five-piece British rock band in the 1970's, best known for their hits All The Young Dudes and Roll Away The Stone. They were formed in 1969 when Hereford band The Silence signed to Island Records and were paired with Shropshire lad Ian Hunter.
