Fergusson College was established by the Deccan Education Society in 1885 in Pune.The college received the status of the College of Excellence in 2017 and Special Heritage Status in 2014 by UGC.
Apr 10, 2024 · Fergusson College in Pune was established in 1892 and started operating fully in 1895. The UGC designated it as a 'College of Excellence' in 2017. Savitribai Phule Pune University is one of its affiliates. According to the NIRF 2024 ranking, Fergusson College is rated 57th overall.
This simple, yet beautiful building symbolizes the entire college. Constructed in the Gothic style with basalt stone (probably quarried from the Fergusson hill) in the early 1890’s, the foundation stone was laid on the 11th January, 1892 by His Excellency, the Right Hon’ble George Robert Canning Harris, Baron Harris, G. C. I. E., Governor of Bombay.
