Gulmohar starring Manoj Bajpayee, Sharmila Tagore, and Amol Palekar begins and ends with a family gathering. There are lines in the film about the fast-changing landscape of Delhi where old bungalows are giving way to skyscrapers.
The first half is a lovely setup of numerous storylines – each handled with nuance. The film loses most of its steam in the second half when it resorts to convenience for a neat resolution of all subplots. This prevents the film from reaching the emotional high that, for example, Kapoor & Sons (2016) had brilliantly achieved.
