Dec 21, 2023 · Yajnavalkya is the name of a sage and teacher who was one of the earliest Hindu and yogic philosophers and who later became a wandering ascetic. Some believe he was an incarnation of the Hindu god, Brahma. His teachings are recorded in " Shatapatha Brahmana" and " Brihadaranyaka Upanishad ," which dates to about 700 B.C.E.
Yājnavalkya is a major figure in early Vedic thought, renowned for his stress on the correspondence between the outer world and the inner world. Many of his dialogues form a part of the narrative of the Brihad-Āranyaka-Upanishad, in which he mentions a preliminary version of the Purāṇic system of cosmology. Subhash Kak.

The Yajnavalkya Upanishad describes the state and expected behavior from a sannyasi as he leads the monastic life after renouncing all material and social ties. It is a short text, and notable for being identical in first three parts to the more ancient Sannyasa text and influential Jabala Upanishad.
