A young man from an aristocratic family tires of the country life and moves to Paris where he squanders his inheritance. Returning to his home with remorse, he reconciles with his father and becomes engaged to his true love.
M onsieur des Lourdines exemplifies the kind of rural melodrama that was massively popular in France throughout the 1930s and 40s, thanks partly to the success of Marcel Pagnol's slices of Provençal life, which began with his famous Trilogie de Marseille. It is by no means the best example of its genre, and by comparison with Pagnol's films it can hardly help looking stilted and contrived.
"Monsieur des Lourdines" is the first movie directed by Pierre de Hérain who directed four other movies in the 40's. "Paméla", "Le Mannequin Assassiné" and "Marlène" are not very convincing. "L'Amour Autour de la Maison" is quite hard to find but remains his best movie.
