Nihal Sarin (born 13 July 2004) is an Indian chess grandmaster and chess prodigy. In 2018, he passed the Elo rating of 2600 at 14 years old, which at the time made him the third youngest player in history to do so.

Jun 19, 2024 · Nihal Sarin won Cluj Grand Prix Rapid 2024 by winning a must-win Armageddon with the white pieces. This is the second leg of the Romania GP 2024. The profusely talented teenager scored 8.5/10 and so did GM Imre Balog (HUN). Their seventh round battle against each other ended in a draw. Thus they had to play Armageddon.
On the 14th of August, Nihal Sarin became the 53rd Grandmaster of India. Hailing from Thrissur in Kerala, the Nihal scored his third GM norm at the Abu Dhabi Masters 2018 and achieved the highest title in the game of chess at the age of just 14 days 1 month and 1 day.
