"MCA" is in its familiar corporate font and has a white gradient texture on it, while "UNIVERSAL" is in a similar font as the movie logo from 1990-1997, but has a gradient texture on it. The text shines and soon afterwards, a globe (showing only the Americas and a small piece of Africa) fades in the center.
In December 1958, MCA bought the 423-acre (1.71 km 2) Universal Studios lot from Universal Pictures for $11,250,000 and renamed it, as well as the actual television unit, Revue Studios. As part of the deal, MCA leased the studios back to Universal for $2 million a year, plus unlimited access to MCA's clients such as Jimmy Stewart, Rock Hudson , Doris Day and Alfred Hitchcock to make films for Universal.
In 1996, MCA was reincorporated and renamed Universal Studios, Inc., which retained ownership of the Universal Pictures film studio. In December 2000, French company Vivendi acquired Seagram's, renaming itself to Vivendi Universal; the deal was closed in January 2001.

Following the dissolution of MCA, Universal Studios introduced a brand new logo on December 9, 1996, and was given a proper animation to accompany it in 1997, which first appeared on The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Despite being replaced in 2012, this logo is still used by Universal Pictures International, and Universal Music Group (the latter broke up from the studio in 2004). When it occurs, the logo flickers to the scope version of the 1963-90 Universal logo in open-matte with the Comcast byline in the same style as MCA's. After it forms, the logo gains a VCR restoration effect and flickers into the 1980's footage to proceed into the Cross Creek Pictures , Imagine Entertainment and Hercules Film Fund logos with the same variation.
