Johar was born on 6 September 1929 in Amritsar, Punjab, in a Punjabi family. He was married to Hiroo, sister of filmmakers B. R. Chopra and Yash Chopra. She, along with Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta, runs the production house Dharma Productions, under the banner of which she has produced various blockbuster movies such as My Name Is Khan (2010), Student of The Year (2012), Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013), Kapoor & Sons (2016), and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016).

It was in 2017 when Karan Johar made his entry into the B-town’s daddy cool list with the arrival of his twins, Yash Johar and Roohi Johar, via surrogacy.
Karan is the only son of late Yash Johar and Hiroo Johar. The filmmaker welcomed his twins via surrogacy in 2017 and since then, he has been co-parenting them along with his mom.
