Feb 21, 2023 · Yemen (official name: Republic Of Yemen ) is a country located on the southwest corner of the Arabian Peninsula. Yemen shares most of its northern borders with the KSA. It is bordered by the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea from south, by the Red Sea from west and by Oman from east. Yemen has a land area of 527,968 km2.
In the Arab world, Yemen has long been a cultural center. Yemen's national anthem is "United Republic" written by Abdallah "al-Fadhool" Abdul Wahab Noman . UNESCO proclaimed the tradition of poetic songs in Sana'a, called al-Ghina al-San'ani, a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity on November 7, 2003.
The population is ethnically Arab, divided between Sunni Muslims of the Shafi'i school and Shi'a Muslims of the Zaydi school. There are small groups of Jews, Hindus, and Christians. In 1949 and 1950, about fifty thousand Yemeni Jews left for Israel. In 1998, the population was 17,071,000.
