The Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) is a research institute located in Shimla, India. It was set up by the Ministry of Education, Government of India in 1964 and started functioning from 20 October 1965. It is currently housed in the Rashtrapati Niwas.
The Library supports the research programs of IIAS through collections, technology and services which enable Fellows, Visiting Scholars and Associates to access knowledge and information resources in all formats.
How to Apply. The interested scholars may apply online by clicking (below) on APPLY NOW. The short-listed scholars would be invited to make a presentation before the Fellowship Award Committee (FAC). Scholars with proven academic credentials, as decided by Screening Committee, may be exempted from this provision.
Tagore Centre. On the 150th Birth Anniversary of ‘Gurudev’ Rabindranath Tagore, the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) was awarded the Tagore Centre for the Study of Culture and Civilization by the Ministry of Education (Shiksha Mantralaya) of Government of India.
The Institute also publishes two biannual journals —- Summerhill: IIAS Review and Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences. Academics. Fellows form the core academic community of the Institute. The Institute hosts three categories of Fellows—National Fellows, Fellows and Tagore Fellows. The term of fellowship for all three categories is for 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years.
The IIAS invites applications for award of Fellowships for advanced research in the following areas: (a) Social, Political and Economic Philosophy; (b) Comparative Indian Literature (including Ancient, Medieval, Modern Folk and Tribal);
