May 12, 2005 · May 12, 2005. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) opens its second headquarters building in downtown Washington, D.C. on May 16, 2005. The new building, which is adjacent to the IMF's existing headquarters building at 700 19 th Street, N.W. will house about 1,500 staff. Occupancy will be complete by early June.

Oct 20, 2020 · Kristalina Georgieva was elected Managing Director of the IMF on September 25, 2019. She assumed her position on October 1, 2019. Before joining the Fund, Ms. Georgieva was CEO of the World Bank from January 2017 to September 2019, during which time she also served as Interim President of the World Bank Group for three months.
The Office of Internal Investigations (OII) was established in 2016 to conduct preliminary inquiries and administrative investigations into suspected misconduct involving IMF staff members and contractual employees. OII carries out its responsibilities independent of any official, department, office, or other organizational entity of the IMF.
