May 5, 2023 · Neil Jordan: Well, the [Raymond] Chandler estate hired John Banville to write an authorized Marlowe novel (The Black-Eyed Blonde, 2014) and they hired somebody else, a guy called Lawrence Osborne (Only to Sleep, 2018) before that, so they obviously had an interest in keeping the character alive. I mean, it’s not that I bought the rights to the book or anything.
