Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais have enjoyed a long and successful career embracing films, television and theatre. Their partnership began in the mid-1960s with The Likely Lads, and by the end of the decade they had also written three feature films: The Jokers, Otley, (directed by Clement) and Hannibal Brooks.

Essex-born Clement teamed up with Geordie insurance salesman La Frenais in the early 1960s and scripted a series about two young pals from Newcastle, The Likely Lads, which became one of BBC Two's first hits.
Dick Clement OBE (born 5 September 1937) and Ian La Frenais OBE (7 January 1937) are a duo of British film and television writers (Clement is also a director and producer). They have created some of British television's most beloved sitcoms including The Likely Lads and its sequel Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads? , and Porridge .
