  4. Jan 31, 2012 · Though the publishing date for this book is 2007, it is actually the previously unpublished novel by Jeff Rice upon which the 1971 TV movie was based. There was a later movie (1973) based on a screen play by Richard Matheson, re-written by Rice, and an even later TV series (74-75) utilizing the same character.
