In 1989, Danny’s mother had met her in Gangtok and instantly liked her and decided to marry Gawa with Danny. Danny met her when she was in the final year of school. His mother was ill, and she insisted Danny to marry her. Before marrying her, Danny was in a relationship with actresses Parveen Babi and Kim Yashpal.
Denzongpa wrote and acted in the Nepali film Saino. His nephew Ugyen Chhopel directed it. He has sung its title song and a duet with Deepa Narayan, wife of Udit Narayan.
