Norway's mainland has more than 2,000 glaciers, which cover almost 1% of the land. Jostedalsbreen occupies about 500 km 2 and is the largest glacier in mainland Europe. Svalbard is covered by 60% glaciers and has the largest glacier in Europe – only matched by Vatnajökull in Iceland.
