Tallapaka Annamacharya ( Telugu: తాళ్ళపాక అన్నమాచార్య, romanized : tāḷḷapāka annamācārya) (22 May 1408 – 4 April 1503), also popularly known as Annamayya, was a musician, composer, and a Hindu saint. He is the earliest known Indian musician to compose songs called samkirtanas.

Annamacharya was the very first vaggeyakara (composer) in Telugu and established a tradition which was later followed by a number of saint composers like Tyagaiah and Kshetraiah. Annamacharya composed 32,000 keertanas (devotional songs) in praise of Lord Venkateswara.
Annamacharya lived for 95 years, devoting his life to the praise of Lord Venkateshwara, and breathed his last in 1503. Insights on his life and works were found in a rhyming couplet of poems named Dwipada, written by his grandson Tallapaka Chinnayya.

Sankeertanas. Annamacharya is honored with the title, “PADA KAVITA PITHAMA” which means the grand father of the form of poetry called “PADAM”. “PADAM” means a song. Since the Saints songs are devotional in nature, they are called “Sankeertanas” also.
