Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury Fahrenheit 451 is a dystopian novel by American writer Ray Bradbury, published in 1953. Fahrenheit 451 is set in an unspecified city at an unspecified time in the future after the year 1960. Guy Montag is a "fireman" employed to burn houses containing outlawed books. Fahrenheit 451 is a story built around book-burning, but that action is representative of all sorts of censorship. As the author states in a coda to the novel, “The point is obvious. There is more than one way to burn a book. And the world is full of people running about with lit matches” (Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451, p. 176).
