The Boring Company (TBC) is an American infrastructure, tunnel construction services, and equipment company founded by Elon Musk. TBC was founded as a subsidiary of SpaceX in 2017, and was spun off as a separate corporation in 2018.
Boring Company tunnels support both Loop and Hyperloop systems. The 0.8 mile Hyperloop Test Track, or Hypertube, was constructed in 2016 and been the site of four student competitions, where student-built Pods reached speeds of up to 288 mph.
Once a tunnel boring machine has reached its operating depth of two tunnel diameters, tunneling causes less noise and vibration at the surface than a pedestrian. Most utilities are located within 10 feet of the surface. Our tunnels are typically more than 30 feet below the surface, where underground space is currently unused.
