Aug 7, 2021 · Professor M N Saha came back from Allahabad in 1938 to succeed Sir C V Raman in the Palit Chair of Physics. In the discovery of Nuclear Fission by Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassman in 1939, he had seen immense potential of nuclear science for betterment of the country.
In the Applied Nuclear Physics Division, we are engaged in basic and applied research using nuclear tools and techniques to explore structure and dynamics of nuclei, atoms, molecules, materials in bulk and nanoscales. Related development of detectors for various physics experiments and radiation-based imaging are also being pursued in the division.
The Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, commonly referred to as SINP and was established in 1949 in Kolkata, West Bengal. The college offers a Ph.D program (including pre-Ph.D course work called Post M.Sc), an undergraduate associateship program, and 2 summer programs.
