Friendica is a sort of Swiss Army knife of the Fediverse: it lets you follow and interact with Mastodon accounts, but it also lets you do a lot of things that other Fediverse server types can’t do. It can be more complicated to use, but if you can get the hang of it it offers features that other server types don’t have.
Using the apache image. You need at least one other mariadb/mysql-container to link it to Friendica. The apache image contains a webserver and exposes port 80. To start the container type: $ docker run -d -p 8080:80 --network some-network friendica.

Server impact - low/medium. Attaches to cronhooks when poller.php runs to grab the addresses of Friendica contacts. This has a low but noticeable effect.
Friendica API. Friendica has implemented two flavors of API. First an API that is compatible with the GNU Social API. Second a Mastodon compatible API (Note only Friendica 2021.06 and later does support the Mastodon API). This means that you should be able to use most of the clients for GNU Social or Mastodons with Friendica as well.
Find a server. Have a look at the list of public servers or you can look at the statistics of the servers that are running with Friendica, Diaspora and Hubzilla which are compatible to each other. At this site look for servers that are marked with “open signups”.
