It is the commercial capital of Odisha which hosts many trading and business houses in and around the city. Cuttack is famous for its Durga Puja which is one of the most important festivals of Odisha. Being the favourite destination of poets and artists, it is also the cultural capital of Odisha.
Cuttack developed into a city out of five villages’ viz. Choudwar Katak, Baranasi Katak, Sarangagarh Katak, Viraja Katak and Amaravati Katak. In the remote past, Cuttack was connected both by land routes and waterways with the renowned medieval ports like Chelitalo, Palur and Tarmalipti.
Cuttack is the birthplace of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, the famous freedom fighter. He was born on 23.1.1897, at their ancestral house, Janakinath Bhawan at Odia Bazar and spent his early childhood here.
