Juliaetta was first known as Schupfer and later as Schupferville, in honor of Rupert Schupfer who homesteaded the land in 1878. He plotted one-half of his homestead as a town site. S. R. Southwick, an early homesteader at Southwick, was the surveyor. Schupfer operated the first general store.
The town became incorporated in 1892. Agricultural products were transported via a tram from the ridges around town. By 1902, Juliaetta had two hotels, Grand Central Hotel and Palace Hotel. Dr. Robert Foster Sr. established Foster's School of Healing in 1903.
The city was incorporated in 1892 when the railroad was extended here. Juliaetta has a population of 624, and being situated 27 miles from Moscow, Idaho and 23 miles from Lewiston, Idaho, makes it a comfortable commuting distance for residents working in those cities.
