  1. Feb 8, 2004 · Country. 4 Aug 2004. #2. Caulking and filler are both loose terms. Caulking generally means something that fills gaps and remains flexible. Filler means something that Fills things (like gaps). So, for instance, Polyfiller, could be described as a filler, but not as caulking (cos it sets hard). Rope soaked in Tar could be described as caulking ...

  2. Jan 26, 2009 · Country. 4 Dec 2009. #2. Polyfilla can be sanded, whereas decorators caulk can't....thats used for filling on top of skirting boards etc where you can smooth the stuff with your finger. Polyfilla for you! Press it in as far as you can then sand down when dry. Open the crack out a fraction if its really fine.

  3. Jan 7, 2019 · However one key mistake I made, like an idiot, was to use caulk on some cracks in the wall, rather than something like polyfilla. Now I’ve applied three coats and the caulk is still shining through the paint. I’ve tried using hardcore primer on the cracks over the caulk (Zinsser primer), but still the caulk is visible - presumably due to ...

  4. Oct 20, 2015 · Country. 31 Mar 2016. #1. I have recently papered a room and used decorators caulk to finish corners and just fill in some tiny gaps between sheets of paper. All left to dry for over 48 hours. I then painted using emulsion and have found crazy paving style cracks all around the caulk. I understand this is down to emulsion and I wanrt to know ...

  5. Aug 18, 2008 · Devon. Country. 2 Mar 2017. #1. I've been sorting through stuff and seem to have accumulated a bunch of full or partly full cans or tubes. Most of it's expired 2014,2015, mid (2016). Loads of tubes of no-nonsense silicone (white and clear). Expanding foam (some of the necks are choaked), filler, adhesive spray for vinyl/underlay.

  6. Mar 24, 2020 · 10 Jul 2022. #2. Caulk and 1-part fillers invariably shrink, so 2-pack wood filler is always going to be a better option, providing you have a machine sander (it is nearly impossible to hand sand the stuff - very, very slow going). Good brands include Everbuild and Metolux, although you can actually get by with a 2-pack car body filler, which ...

  7. Jan 18, 2021 · Country. 19 Jan 2021. #4. ianmcd said: I just use low modulus silicon, it remains pretty flexible and wont crack, caulk will crack with heat expansion of the pipes. @ianmcd - thanks, I hadn't realised there were so many different types of silicone! Looks like the neutral stuff is what I would need for using on copper.

  8. Mar 30, 2011 · 14 Jan 2016. #1. My helper accidentally used silicone bathroom sealant instead of decorators caulk. He has laid a long line of it in the corner of the room from ceiling to floor, to fill a gap in the tongue and groove cladding. He also used it to fill some miscellaneous holes, gaps etc in the cladding. He then painted over the silicone with ...

  9. Oct 24, 2009 · Country. 21 Nov 2009. #1. Can someone explain what the difference is between decorators caulk and flexible gap filler? For jobs like gap filling in skirting boards I've always used flexible gap filler. If there is a difference, when should I be using caulk over flexible gap filler? Any replies much appreciated. Cheers.

  10. Jul 20, 2007 · its fine to seal the gas pipes sleeve to the wall but you should not seal the gap between the gas pipe and the sleeve outside. Inside only, this allows any gas leak inside the sleeve to escape outside. although some plastics are allowed as a sleeve its a poor choice and tends to leave a larger gap between the two. L.
