Marie-José Pérec (French: [maʁi ʒoze peʁɛk] ⓘ; born 9 May 1968) [3] is a retired French track and field sprinter who specialised in the 200 and 400 metres and is a three-time Olympic gold medalist. [4]

Marie-José Pérec was born on the island of Guadeloupe and moved to Paris when she was 16 years old. Recognizing her natural ability, coaches practically forced her to become a sprinter, and she represented France in the 200m at the 1988 Olympic Games. Winning with long and graceful strides.
Initially a 200 metre runner, Marie-José Péréc’s breakthrough came in the 400 metres at the 1988 French Championships. Her star soon rose, winning the 200 m at the 1989 European Indoor Championships, and gaining a bronze at the outdoor Europeans (400 m) in Split, 1990.
