The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology is distributed over several locations. While the campus north is situated in the administrative district of Karlsruhe near Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen, the campus south is about 10 km away in the heart of the city of Karlsruhe.

History. Forschungszentrum and Universität: Pioneers in Research and Education. 50 years after the foundation of Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe and 181 years after the foundation of Universität Karlsruhe, both institutions were successful in the Excellence Initiative of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Federal States 2006.
