Karakol (Kyrgyz: Каракол, [qɑrɑˈqɔɫ]), formerly Przhevalsk (Russian: Пржевальск), is the fourth-largest city in Kyrgyzstan, near the eastern tip of Lake Issyk-Kul, about 150 kilometres (93 mi) from the Kyrgyzstan–China border and 380 kilometres (240 mi) from the capital Bishkek.
- Holy Trinity Cathedral. The Holy Trinity Cathedral was Karakol’s first Russian Orthodox Church. In the nineteenth century, the city was used by the Russians as an outpost or garrison town.
