Jablonec nad Nisou is located about 7 km (4 mi) southeast of Liberec and 83 km (52 mi) northeast of Prague. Most of the built-up area lies in the eastern tip of the Zittau Basin, and it is surrounded with the Jizera Mountains in the north, east and south.

Jablonec nad Nisou with its population of nearly 45,000 is an administrative, entertainment, sport and recreation centre of the Jizera Mountains.
