About Westport
Westport has a motto: life is good. And it definitely is in this quaint little town! Westport is home to about 600 people, and you can walk from one end of the village to the other in a matter of minutes. It’s not anexcitingplace, but it is very sweet and if you’re looking to get out of the city for a change of scenery, it’s a nice spot to go. The best feature of the village is that it’s right on a beautiful section of the canal system.
Getting to Westport
Westport is a small village in Eastern Ontario, at the west of the Rideau Lake. It’s part of the canal system, between Kingston and Ottawa. The best way to get there coming from either city is definitely to drive. If you’re coming to Westport from Ottawa, take the Trans-Canada Highway/ON-7 from Ottawa. It’s a long, 60KM stretch on the highway, then take Route 10 into Westport. The drive takes about 1.5 hours in total.
Take in the View from Foley Mountain
Westport has a fantastic lookout point, from Foley Mountain. I don’t think you can ask for a more spectacular lookout. Take in a view of the town, the lakes, and the harbour below. It’s a very short walk to access the lookout, so if you want to enjoy more time in nature, explore more of the Foley Conservation area. There is 10KM worth of hiking and walking trails here, which are a small portion of a much longer trail that goes all the way from Ottawa to Kingston. The main trail follows the side of the mountain.
