  2. I agree it's a very good traditional horror movie, but the charm of Evil Dead is the humor and outlandishness juxtaposed to the horrific elements. The Evil Dead remake while very good in its own right was a very serious movie up until the climax.

  4. It's one of my go-to films to re-watch and to recommend when people ask for a good recent horror. If you get a chance to see the extended cut, you should definitely give it a watch. I had to import the Finnish Blu-ray, but I am sure you can stream it somewhere.

This isn’t a strict remake of Sam Raimi ‘s hugely influential 1981 horror classic, but it does include the basic framework and some visual nods to the original. On its own, it’s an irredeemable, sadistic torture chamber reveling in the bloody, cringe-inducing deaths of some of the stupidest people ...

  8. The Good: The common criticism of 2013's Evil Dead is that it lacks the humor and heart of the original films (this is a bit of revisionist history, since Sam Raimi's original was not really a horror comedy, as people tend to remember). There is no Ash, there is no absurdist humor, there are no crazy camera angles...I get it.
