The filmmakers are not entirely wrong as it certainly is the most action-packed, well-executed bit of a revenge thriller which later on feels devoid of thrill. The opening's impact is more so with the fine work of cinematographer Anil Mehta and editor Pooja Ladha Surti in building the strong foundation for the story to follow.
Badlapur is tough, on both its viewers and its actors. Full marks to Varun for stepping out of his comfort zone. The supporting players — from Huma to Kumud Mishra — are terrific.

The first 10-odd minutes of Badlapur are beautifully-crafted. It’s also the prelude to a letdown because it turns out that’s all Badlapur has: a superb beginning.
The brilliant performances and gripping narrative, nonetheless, will keep you hooked. Watch it for Nawazuddin and Varun Dhawan, if nothing else. Certainly worth your time and money.
Feb 20, 2015 · Each of them gives a great performance at best and an effective one at the worst, which is more than what you could expect from the leads of most other films. All in all, Badlapur is an intense and captivating cinematic experience for those bored of the typical Bollywood shtick and looking for something refreshingly different.
