  1. Background: The (1,3)-β-D-glucan assay (BDG) is recommended for the early diagnosis of invasive candidiasis (IC). Methods: Records of 154 critically ill adults with suspected IC, on whom BDG was done, were analyzed.

  2. BDG assay has been utilized in the early diagnosis of IC/candidemia and also has a high negative predictive value (NPV) and therefore can be utilized for stopping empirical antifungal therapy. The BDG assay has recently been introduced in India and the clinical efficacy data of BDG in Indian ICUs are lacking.

  3. An abundant cell wall polysaccharide, (1-3)-β- d -glucan (BDG) is found in most fungi, with the notable exception of the cryptococci, the zygomycetes, and Blastomyces dermatitidis, which either lack the glucan entirely or produce it at minimal levels.

  4. May 1, 2018 · Serum beta-D-glucan (BDG) was done only in 32 patients of the 114 (35.3%); among those who were tested, 5 (15.6%) had a BDG value of less than 80 pg/mL despite having Candida BSI. Fluconazole...

  5. Mar 1, 2014 · Our data suggest that (1-3)-β- d -glucan (BDG) using cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is a highly sensitive test for diagnosis of fungal meningitis in the outbreak of fungal meningitis and other infections. BDG levels in serially collected CSF demonstrated that BDG may correlate with clinical response.

  8. 2 days ago · Background The performance and availability of invasive and non-invasive investigations for the diagnosis of Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PCP) vary across clinical settings. Estimating the pre-test probability of PCP is essential to the optimal selection and interpretation of diagnostic tests, such as the 1,3-β-D-glucan assay (BDG), for the prioritization of bronchoscopy, and to guide empiric treatment decisions. We aimed to develop a multivariable risk score to estimate the pre-test ...
