The cinema owners/lessees have challenged the imposition of "theatre tax" by the Nagar Mahapalika, Lucknow. The petitions have been filed under Article 32 of the Constitution of India.

The cinema exhibitors had previously challenged the theatre tax imposed by Nagar Mahapalika Allahabad before the Allahabad High Court through a writ petition under Article 226 of the Constitution of India. The writ petition was dismissed by a learned Single Judge of the High Court. The said petition is still pending before the High Court.
