The Dagyab region lies on the eastern border of the Tibet Autonomous Region about 60 km from the third largest city of Chamdo and almost 1000 km from the capital Lhasa on the upper reaches of the Mekong River. It is about half the size of Hesse.
Kham (Tibetan: ཁམས་, Wylie: khams; Chinese : 康; pinyin : Kāng) is one of the three traditional Tibetan regions, the others being Domey also known as Amdo in the northeast, and Ü-Tsang in central Tibet. The official name of this Tibetan region/province is Dotoe (Tibetan: མདོ་སྟོད་).
Dagyab county is located in Kham province in the south-eastern part of the Tibetan Autonomous Region. It is divided into two areas: Magoen in the east and Bugoen in the west.
