Our knowledge of life in Brentwood begins in the 15 th century, when several villages were developed by Native Americans of the Mississippian culture. The mounds they built, and the graves and artifacts found in the area, reveal but little about their traditions and way of life.
For more than 500 years, Brentwood’s beautiful rolling hills have made it an ideal place to raise a family. In the 15 th century, Native Americans set up homes in this area, developing villages, and building massive mounds that still stand today.

Sep 10, 2024 · The City of Brentwood was incorporated on April 15, 1969 and operates under the Council/Manager form of government. The Board of Commissioners (informally, the "City Commission"), the city's chief policy-making body, enacts laws known as ordinances, and sets policies and takes other formal actions through resolutions.
Meet the Police Chief. Richard Hickey was appointed as Chief of Police in February 2022. Chief Hickey is the city’s fourth police chief since the department was created in 1971. The Brentwood Police Department hired Hickey in 1991 and he began his career in patrol.
