When Sooryagayathri was merely three, her innate aptitude for pitch and rhythm became evident, prompting her parents to introduce her to formal music lessons. In fact, her father became her first teacher. She received formal training in Carnatic music under the expert guidance of her gurus, S. Anandi and Nishant Nadapuram.
Soorya’s parental grandfather, Balachandran was a renowned dance teacher, and her grandmother, Thankamani is a trained singer. Her father Sri. PV Anilkumar has been an AIR mridangam artist in Kozhikode for several years. Her mother Smt. PK Divya, a BA graduate and writes songs and poems.
That was how Soorya’s parents decided to give their daughter training in classical music. Nishant Nadapuram , who was Anil’s friend became her first trainer when she was just four years old. Presently she is trained by S Anandi, a music teacher in Kozhikode.
